Mission Statement

Several writers have suggested that home school families have a mission statement. Mission statements can serve as a filter when deciding what activities to add & subtract from our daily schedule. This seems like a good idea, so we wrote one.

The Wright Family Mission Statement, 2010-2011 School Year

We aim to honor God as we live a better story by learning, playing and serving together.
We will focus on 3 main values:
  • Creativity- We believe that, according to Psalm 150, God has given us many gifts, all of which are designed to bring him Glory. We will praise Him in creative ways.

    1 Praise the LORD.
    Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heavens.

    2 Praise him for his acts of power;
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.

    3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
    praise him with the harp and lyre,

    4 praise him with tambourine and dancing,
    praise him with the strings and flute,

    5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

    6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
    Praise the LORD.

  • Compassion - We will seek out ways to honor God by offering our lives in service to others. We will sacrifice for one another and for those in need of compassion.
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12

  • Commitment - We will complete tasks and honor commitments, no matter how hard they are. We will persevere through trials, including piano, school and athletics, knowing that our cheerful commitment brings honor to God.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

I have a piano student that has been "in trials" with piano, and she told me that her mother has insisted that she WILL perservere. We (the student and I) are trying new things together to help make piano a little more fun for her. :-) I'm sure you will find plenty of ways to make ALL kinds of learning more fun for E & C. May God guide you all in this homeschooling endeavour.

It has been said that I am easily amused. Little things fascinate me. I like to know how things work. I like factory tours and behind-the-scenes stuff and those specials on Discovery Channel. An Open Letter to Everyone's Favorite Morning Radio Host

Dear Mr. Morning Radio Host, How dare you, Mr. Morning Radio Host , while thinking out loud on air, suggest that we all turn around and give our tax refund checks to Compassion International? It's an economic stimulus package! Didn't you think of that? How will sending our money to poor people out of the country stimulate the US economy? Huh? That's just an un-American suggestion! You are proposing that we send our economy into further tumult, just to satisfy your whim of feeding orphans! If we don't use our money to consume more stuff, or go on little vacations or invest wisely, then, well, the package will be all for naught, and we will all be guilty of treason, or something. What are you trying to do? Save the world or something? Start a movement? You are a danger to this economy, sir. Ask me what I did last night.

A few of us have been wrestling a little bit lately with what it means to live in the grace of God. What does it mean to live fully covered by the Gospel? To embrace the freedom Christ secured for us on the cross? For me, last night, it meant big hair and hard rock. See, over the summer, I'd started to get a little self-conscious about my holiness. I was part of a study at church that consisted of mainly older, wiser, more conservative and traditional women. While I still felt largely like a voice of dissent - a raging postmodern compared to this crowd - there was a certain feeling starting to set in. An old nemesis.
