The answer to The Golden Compass

Doing one of the things we do best, the Christian community has incited a panic over The Golden Compass, because it's about killing God. Agreed - Killing God is bad. But, here's the thing: it can't be done. The movie doesn't ACTUALLY kill God. Nothing will ever kill God. To my knowledge, bad things happen to people who live their lives trying to do it. And, as I read somewhere earlier, if kids could kill god, then he probably has it coming to him. But I digress.

I would like to propose an alternative to the "Angry Christians on the Defensive" marketing plan: See Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium instead.

Teach your kids to find the beauty in this story that mirrors the gospel in so many ways. Support the segment of the industry that is producing G-rated movies that embrace creativity and celebrate Wonder. Enjoy an hour and a half of silliness and innocence.

I have read and read the reviews and summaries of The Golden Compass... and I just think that people are so ridiculous. Just let a story be a story without jumping all over it if it's not written by a Christian, for goodness' sake. After you see the Emporium, buy a ticket for The Golden Compass and make your own assessment instead of letting others tell you how to interpret the world... :) Paul quoted Roman sayings and used them in his teachings... do we think he was not devout enough?revkah2376

Dawn and I went out on a date this week and since we haven't done the "dinner and a movie" thing in awhile we opted for that. Unfortunately, she didn't want to see Beowulf or Michael Clayton so we agreed to see The Golden Compass.

I'm glad we saw it and think it's almost refreshing to watch a movie with a message as blatant as this one. How many films do we watch and unknowingly swallow the subtle messages hook, line, and sinker? But that's another post. Here is a blog post I read this morning from one of the editors at InterVarsity Press.
